The Not-So-Secret Community of Super Heroes and Heroines

Mom - has been keeping my hands flecked with paint and sticky with glue since I can remember. She's always taught me to see the potential in things.

Dad - has been teaching me to catch frogs since I was smaller than a bullrush. He also puts up with my ungodly attempts to sing along with Sarah Brightman and Phantom of the Opera.

Penguin - boyfriend of 5+ years and now my fiance. We used to live about 2000km apart and finally moved in together in 2012.

Scarlett - my best friend from medical school, who introduced me to Neko Case, ginger syrup, and other amazing things.

Constellation - Scarlet's husband and a lovely gent who makes amazing food and plays some wicked Ultimate.

Lemonriffic - my best friend from undergrad, who now owns a Bed and Breakfast on the Bruce Peninsula. Lemonriffic introduced me to Modest Mouse, U2, and the broiler element on my stove. She sends the best mail imaginable.

Carpe - is a fellow general surgery resident and incidentally my doppleganger! This tiny but mighty bundle of energy goes after life with all the punch and vigor of your favourite cab sauv: bold, strong, and delightful.

The Green Machine - a dear friend from High School who also went to Carleton with me in undergrad. We've done band together, swam Masters together, and generally been a dynamic duo for years.

Steel Wheels - a close friend from medical school and my clerkship rotation buddy. Steel Wheels once rode her bike across Canada!

The Real Deal - a close friend from med school who continues to amaze us all by always finding time to play hard, work hard, and still spend time with his 2 kids and outstanding wife.

Jack - a close friend from med school who is as tall as I am short. Jack is now married to a firecracker of a woman and continues to allow himself to be dragged up mountains all in the name of friendship and love.

Lao Tzu - a close friend from med school who is a wise old man trapped in a young man's body. He has an amazing wife and one of the most beautiful, expressive babies you'll ever meet.
